About Earl Grey Heritage Loose Leaf

Many stories exist recounting how Earl Grey tea come to bear the name of a former British Prime Minister. Some say he was introduced to the tea on a trip to China, others claim it was at his Northumbria home that a dash of bergamot oil was first added to his tea. Well-balanced and fragrant, Earl Grey has since gone on to charm the world with its sweet citrus flavour.

Every blend in the Heritage Collection honours the origins of the world’s finest tea.

Terroir & Production

The Assam tea for Earl Grey is cultivated along the fertile banks of the Brahmaputra River, where heavy monsoon rains and tropical warmth nurture rich, full-bodied leaves. The bergamot is grown in Sicily’s coastal groves, where mineral-rich volcanic soil and Mediterranean light give the fruit its vivid, aromatic zest.
