Our tea of the month is Kan-Junga – a fresh and reviving black tea grown in one of most spectacular tea growing regions. This tea is named after the third highest mountain in the world, mount Kanchenjunga, which stands proudly overlooking the gardens in which this tea is grown. All tea is a product of its natural environment and this is especially true in Kan-Junga - the aroma and taste evoke fresh mountain air and rolling green tea gardens.

Nepal’s tea may not be as famous as its neighbouring region of Darjeeling, but has been quietly producing some of the best tea in the world for several decades. Like wine, terroir is of the upmost importance in tea production and Nepal has superb terroir for growing tea.

Terroir is the term for the vast array of geographic and climactic factors that play a huge part in determining the quality of natural products. The terroir of a region is unique, and it dictates that tea grown the same way in two different places will yield different flavours. Factors of terroir can range from sunlight to microfauna, and everything in between.

The best tea is often grown at high altitude. The cool weather, good drainage and plentiful rainfall of high elevation terrain is ideal for high quality tea production, and the Nepalese hills are the perfect manifestation of these factors. Nepal is one of the highest tea producing regions of the world - blessed with fresh Himalayan air and wonderfully clean water. As a result, Kan-Junga tea is brimming with muscatel grape aroma, a smooth and slightly mineral taste, and a sense of freshness that can only be compared to breathing in a floral mountain meadow.

Kan-Junga is a unique and complex blend with a sweet and floral flavour reminiscent of fresh mountain air. This light black tea features the finest quality leaves, harvested in prime season and skilfully processed to reveal the natural characteristics of the tea. Kan-Junga is a refined experience, perfect for sensory indulgence. This very special black tea will make a wonderful discovery for any tea lover, and is highly recommended for those who already know the joys of Darjeeling tea.
