Acclaimed chef Adam Handling’s food has been causing quite a stir in the restaurant world recently. He may have come to prominence as a MasterChef: The Professionals finalist, but Adam has quietly built up some impressive kitchen credentials over the last 11 years. Starting out as a 16-year old trainee chef at Scotland’s iconic Gleneagles, stints in London and adam_handling_newby_teas_blog_01Newcastle soon followed, before a return to home turf as Fairmont’s youngest ever Head Chef. By 22, Adam had already been crowned ‘Scottish Young Chef of the Year’ – and that was just the start of the ambitious Dundonian’s ascent. An exploratory tour of Asia allowed Adam to develop his love of the continent’s diverse cuisine – something his diners would find evidence of when he went on to head the kitchens of a 6* cruise liner and a top London hotel. Following Adam’s MasterChef appearance, his name moved centre-stage with the opening of Westminster’s Adam Handling at Caxton in 2014. The plaudits kept coming: Scottish Chef of the Year, Newcomer Restaurant of the Year, 3 AA Rosettes… it’s no wonder Adam made the cut for The Caterer’s 30 Under 30 to Watch list too, at the ripe old age of 24. Now the author of his first recipe book, Smile or Get Out of the Kitchen, the enigmatic chef would be the first to acknowledge the success of his signature restaurant is a true team effort, as his kitchen brigade work to create a dining experience which is both relaxed and full of harmony. Adam’s inventive flavour combinations and thought-provoking presentations are sure to intrigue you – and get you talking about them. This creative mindset lies behind Adam’s latest collaboration with Newby Teas. Not only does Adam serve our top-quality teas in his restaurant, he has also been experimenting with a fermentation technique to produce some special brews of his own – Adam’s truly sublime Kombucha, a refreshing and healthy drink he and his team enjoy daily, is made using Newby teas too. adam_handling_newby_teas_blog_03Over the coming months, you’ll also be able to find out why Adam swears by the quality of Newby teas to bring perfectly balanced flavours to an eclectic mix of dishes. You can try making them at home – and maybe even get the chance to try Adam Handling’s award-winning food for yourself.

I’m excited to introduce my style of cooking and dining to Newby’s tea-loving audience”, says Adam. “There is so much more to tea than people think. I hope this encourages others to get creative and see what they can achieve with the great teas. I personally chose Newby for my restaurant because I believe in quality at every stage. Come for dinner at my place, it’ll be Newby tea you drink, and Newby tea in my dishes. So, when I say I recommend it – I really mean it!

Keep your eyes on Newby for lots more from Adam Handling very soon.
