Description

This Japanese matcha whisk (chasen) is handmade using dark bamboo. With its long handle, it was designed to be used like a cocktail muddler. Its original design makes it perfect to prepare ceremonial grade matcha in a taller matcha bowls, but also suitable to stir and whisk any kind of other powder tea, like powdered houjicha. 

The Japanese tea ceremony, or "chanoyu," is a tradition steeped in symbolism, focusing on the preparation and serving of matcha, a finely ground green tea. Central to this ceremony is the bamboo matcha whisk, or "chasen," typically handcrafted by skilled Japanese craftsmen. These whisks are usually made from dark bamboo, meticulously split into fine bristles to create the perfect froth. To make matcha with a chasen, sift the powder into a bowl, add hot water at 70ºC , and whisk in a "W" motion until it's smooth and frothy.
