ENVIRONMENT
Our preservation centre is now carbon neutral
By 2028, we aim to cut our emissions by 50% from our 2022 levels, working towards net-zero emissions. We're starting by focusing on energy efficiency and using 50% renewable power sources at our preservation centre in Kolkata, including installing solar panels. Plus, we're offsetting our emissions by investing in a Hydroelectric Power Project in Uttarakhand, India. Our carbon reduction plan is monitored and verified by our reliable partner, DNV.

We are proud members of the Ethical Tea Partnership
Newby is a member of the Ethical Tea Partnership, a global, not-for-profit organisation committed to improving the lives and environment of tea workers worldwide. We align closely with the ETP’s mission of enhancing tea production to be more ethical, fairer, and environmentally sustainable. As part of our commitment, we transparently share all our purchase information with the ETP, ensuring full traceability of our teas.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Taking the next steps with biodegradable and home compostable packaging
We are constantly investing in Research And Development to offer the best packaging to protect the teas while minimising environmental impact. Newby tea bags have been certified as being biodegradable, made from wood pulp and abaca. Our Silken Pyramid bags are made from corn starch. They are both 100% plastic-free. Additionally, the use of the ultrasonic method for attaching thread and tags to the tea bag and we only use vegetable ink.

CHARITY
Nurturing communities and inspiring change with the N. Sethia Foundation
All our profits are allocated to charitable causes as we are primarily owned by the N. Sethia Foundation. Our latest projects involve initiatives aimed at improving education access for girls and children in slums through Harmony House, donations to cultural institutions such as The London Museum, and providing humanitarian aid to refugees.
