Big BenThe History of Tea in the United Kingdom

The early beginnings of tea in England are obscure. The East India Company, under a charter granted by Elizabeth I, had a monopoly on imported goods from 'Asia' and there are records of ships reaching England in 1637. However, history has taken 1652 as the date when tea first 'arrived' in England.
